[Hardy-l] Earnings for serial version of Jude

Hi folks--

I'm new to the list and have a quick question about how much Hardy earned
for the serial version of _Jude the Obscure_ in _Harper's_.  With the help
of another list-member, I've already checked the _Collected Letters_.  I've
also checked John Sutherland's _Stanford Guide to Victorian Fiction_ and all
the editions of the novel I happen to have around the house, but I haven't
had any luck yet.  

I was hoping someone on the list might happen to know this figure.  I'm
teaching _Jude_ in a class about classic and commodity issues in the
19th-century novel, and I've been trying to give students figures for
authors' earnings as we go along.
