[Hardy-l] Blogs with Hardy interest

Dear Rosemarie
There is as far as I know no evidence of Hardy actually visiting Purse Caundle, but on the other hand no reason to doubt that during his cycling and later motoring days he could have passed through. Blink, and you've almost missed it! There are a few informative websites covering this tiny village.
As the blog says, there was some renovation and rebuilding work at the church, and with there being one known instance of shoddy work here the misplacement of the mass dial could well have been another. In other churches there have been instances of these being covered over, or even placed inside. What really surprises me is that nobody - especially those responsible for compiling historical architectural surveys - seemingly failed to record it. But then at the time I was specifically looking for it, in the belief that there was no reason why Purse Caundle church should not have had one. Some churches have multiple ones, including the Hampshire church of Droxford whence comes my own ancestry.
  Thank you for the interest.

  Back again, Ronald --

Do you know if TH ever had any connection with the Purse Caundle Church in
Blackmore Vale (Tess country) -- did he , for example, know about the
misplaced quoin stone and why (do you happen to know?) was the stone
removed from its original setting where it told the hours (?)

All seems a bit mysterious -
What have you found out?

Best
Rosemarie
