Ah --now I understand .  I would say it's appropriate, in a purely literary 
sense,  insofar as it fits the writer's argument neatly --and there's also 
a subversive irony in the fact that, in a marginalising way,  Clinton does 
"run" as the member's wife (apologies for the lewd implications).
