And here in Central Illinois, the shadow was a rich, cloudy, reddish-brown.
Odd mixture of appearances from the old shift-shape moon, yes?  And none of
them quite like Hardy's "even monochrome and curving line of imperturbable
serenity."

I'm surprised at the colourlessness of the eclipse shot from New York.  The 
stunning aspect from shoreline CT was-- we *all* thought -- the way the the 
shadow over the moon gleamed and shimmered like  gold Lamé -- quite 
magical! as if the beautiful orb had adorned itself in shining chiffon silk
