I don't have my copy here, but, yes, as I recall, that's a chapter from The Country and the City, in which Williams positions Hardy at various "borders" professionally, chronologically, etc.

Subject: [Hardy-l] help with a citation?

Dear Scholars,

I am unable to find the citation for a Raymond Williams' essay, "Wessex and the Border (1973)," pages 190-205. The last page (p. 205) lists the source as extracts from ch. 18 of his The Country and the City. This essay is not in his normal publications, and I suspect I found it in a book of Hardy essays or somesuch. Any wise pointers out there, por favor?

Kevin T.
