Dear all-
In a very touching obituary written to eulogize the death of the last
surviving French foot soldier from World War I, a line from Thomas Hardy's
poem "The To-Be-Forgotten' is mentioned in the lead paragraph. In the poem,
Hardy referred to a symbolic second death associated with the loss of living
memory as "oblivion's swallowing sea."
