Have found out a bit more.
Paragraph 8.33 of Dorset County Council's environmental statement on the
proposed Weymouth Relief Road says "Many artists, authors and poets have
been attracted to Dorset and have produced works inspired by its landscapes.
Of the authors Thomas Hardy was the most prolific. The village of Sutton
Poyntz, located in the eastern part of the Study Area, is the main setting
for 'The Trumpet Major'."
