Hi Kathie --

I've just gotten around to reading Keith's review of Martin Ray's book and
it's really so very good: so much more detailed than mine (which was of
course written for a different medium) and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Like
the very best of reviews it makes one want to go straight to the book --
instantly.

Thank you Kathie (and Keith) for a most rewarding read.

There's something about TTHA's way of publishing several different reviews
of a single work which renders the Book Reviews page unique and
extraordinary. Where else would anyone find this diversity of
scholarship? There is little that is contradictory in the reviews but
there is much that is richly subjective and co-ordinate while being
expressively different. You get the feeling, ranging through Kathie's
pages, that you are being held -- magically -- in a throng of voices both
discordant, enlightening and wise.

I'm beginning to feel that perhaps the Hardy Review should publish these
"multiple " reviews first and foremost, above all others, if only for
their stimulating diversity.

They represent, in Socratic terms, the ultimate " argument."

Best

Rosemarie
