The God whom we had made/invented ("Our making") we soon deemed to be the God who had made us ("soon our maker did we deem"), which leads into the next line "And what we had imagined we believed" (i.e. we believed in the actual existence of what we had only created in our imaginations).

Could someone say me in simple words the meaning of the line "our making soon our maker did we deem"? It's in Hardy's poem God's Funeral. I know the sentence order is changed but I cannot get the complete meaning.
Thanks,
Wellington
