[hardy-l] Tess's ending

When I look at Hardy's fiction, it can go many ways. Yes, a more "happy" ending would not fit in with Hardy's style, given his dim view of life. I think that his novels reflect that view. So, to wish for anything other than a depressing ending from him is useless. But, Tess could have left Alec...she was not his but, Angel's. So she could have left and had a better life. Sorry....
