Rosemarie I do agree with what you say about the 19th century country  
girls.   There were some celebrated country beauties certainly, the  
more so perhaps considering they did not have easy access to the  
enhancements  available to their counterparts today.  I'll bet the  
actresses in this production spent some good amount of time with the  
make-up people before each day's shooting took place.  It would have  
been interesting if the make-up artists were allowed to do their job   
only with the cosmetics and techniques available to the average 19th  
century country girl.  That they didn't is why I feel the girls look  
too 'modern'.
