One of Alec's very last actions in the film is his sending Tess
downstairs to complain about the landlady's coffee. The coffee in this
place tastes like "horsepiss." Or, so he phrases it.
Now let me see, was that in the novel? (I'm kidding).
So, what do you think was going on in the film-maker's mind when he put
that in?
I'll give you the correct answer a little later.
