In response to Paul's query, I wondered about this myself.  She did seem to utter something which might be better left untyped.
 
Speaking of American tv prudery, in the first part, when Tess is nursing her baby, there was some kind of blurr placed over her breast.  Folks in the UK:  Did that happen when it was shown on BBC?  All this seems rather silly, considering what else is shown on American tv, so I wonder if that was due to the program airing on PBS.JoAnna S. MinkProfessor Emerita of English
