I read the inquiry about the Bockhampton cottage in the Forum and my memory and curiosity were tweaked. Here's what I've found.
Millgate (p 491) states that Hardy wrote the last quarterly rent check on 1 January 1913. (The property was owned by the Kingston Maurward Estate.) Subsequently the remaining family (two sisters and brother Henry) moved to Henry's property at Talbothays in West Stafford.
Seymour-Smith writes (p 768) that Hardy's photographer friend Hermann Lea then took over the lease..
The booklet I acquired at the cottage itself ("Hardy's Cottage", National Trust, 1981, p 13) states that Lea lived there about ten years, followed by several other tenants, mostly local people, until the property was purchased by the National Trust in 1948.
