So the 13-year old Kayva Shivashankar was able to spell the word  
Hardy used for one of his novels and win the National Spelling Bee  
2009 in Washington. I bet there are a few Hardy enthusiasts who would  
be hard put to spell 'Laodicean'.  I'm sure Hardy would have shaken  
her hand if he were there, especially as the word was heard by many  
more people than ever read his novel.  I'll wager  'D'Urbevilles'  
wouldn't have given her any trouble either !
