I'm sorry, Betty - the sense of 'macabre' does seem to be just you! I don't know why my contributions have been linked with this reading - I said in my first posting - and I quote myself again, for the second time! -"rather than 'eerie', 'weird' or 'macabre', I found an atmosphere of fond familiarity, calm serenity, maybe domesticity in 'counterpane', but the solemnity of a winter dawn".
