I'm  sure there are many poets who represent God as artist,  
Rosemarie, but I don't recall Hardy representing God, or Nature, or  
the Imminent Will, or whatever he calls it in that way.  He is much  
more likely to describe that entity as a creator who abandoned its  
work after bringing it into being.  Neither can I imagine God being  
described as lying in bed.
